National Pet Month Celebrates 20 Years

National Pet Month (NPM) is returning from 4th April to 4th May 2009 to put the wag back into the tails of the United Kingdom’s pet population with the theme ‘Healthy Pets Make Happy Pets’.

As well as donating money to numerous animal charities, this year's campaign will also seek to raise awareness of the importance of pet health, after all healthy pets make happy pets!

Everyone can get involved in National Pet Month.  Pet owners, here's your chance to host a variety of events across the nation.  Use your imagination and come up with a inique way of raising money for this worthy cause.

2009 sees the return of the National Pet Month Photographic Competition, in conjunction with Your Dog and Your Cat magazine, in which pet owners can enter snaps of their favourite pet moments in the hope of making their furry, feathered or scaly friend a celluloid star at the climax of National Pet Month, the Ultimate Pet Show to be held from 2nd to 4th May.

National Pet Month in a Nutshell

When?
From 4 April to 4 May 2009, you are invited to be a part of National Pet Month, sponsored by Iams. Thousands of people up and down the UK will be celebrating life with their pets, spreading the word on responsible pet ownership or raising money for their favourite charity in fun-filled events. Why not be a part of this?

Why?
National Pet Month’s aims are to

promote responsible pet ownership
make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets
increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals
raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals

What?
Each year the responsible pet ownership message is conveyed by running the events under a central theme. Our 2009 theme is ‘Healthy Pets Make Happy Pets’, which will be based on obesity and other health-related issues!

Who?
National Pet Month is a registered charity, unique in bringing together animal welfare charities, professional bodies, pet businesses, schools, youth groups and pet lovers, with the common goal of improving the welfare of pets. The trustees are National Office of Animal Health (NOAH), Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) and Pet Care Trust (PCT).
